Talks at Computing for SKA workshop

Thursday 27th, 11:40 am – 12:10 pm

Overview of Correlators

A correlator is at the fire hydrant end of the SKA Big Data challenge, and must be able to process unprecedented volumes of data in real-time far away from major power supplies. This talk will give an overview of the correlation process from a computing perspective to give the audience an understanding of the steps and hurdles that it involves.

Friday 28th, 12:10 pm – 12:40 pm

Hardware accelerators for SKA

The SKA correlator, pulsar search and imaging pipeline present a range of challenges for computer technologies, particularly in terms of data throughput, power requirements, memory, processing and parallelization. This talk will discuss some of the candidate hardware processors that are under investigation in the SKA to meet these challenges, including ASIC, FPGA, GPU and many-core architectures.
